Mentor Post #1

As I am sure we all have similar experiences, my mentor, and the sub sequent conversations, as been present in my life since birth. In fact, my mom has been my mentor continuously for my whole life, from infant hood to (I guess) adulthood. It would be foolish not to mention my dad as well, as he has been very influential in my upbringing; it is simply my mom who has made the mentoring relationship toward me since day 1.
A recent conversation I had with her revolved around the discussion of asking God for direction. First of all, how does one ask Him for guidance, and for what does one ask Him? I thought it was rather neat, the advice she gave me, and thought it would be appropriate to post this prayer that exemplifies just that. Following each letter in the alphabet:
God, you are All-knowing in this situation. You are the Author of my life. I give that control to you. You are Benevolent. I can trust You. You Care about by situation. You are the Director of my path. You are Dependable. From Everlasting to everlasting You are king. You are Eternal and know the future as the present. You are my Friend. You enjoy being with me. You are the author of Grace. Help me be Gracious to myself. You are a Helper. I need your Help right now. You desire Intimacy with me. Help me be open to You and Your love. You have my Journey laid out before You. You see the beginning and the end. Help me follow You, not run ahead.
So on and so forth. Simply reflecting on these themes of the prayer, I see my dependence on Him and the close relationship I can have with Him. Through this intimate relationship with Him, I further trust in Him and walk along that path.

  1. This is great stuff. I am personally in need of these reminders daily, as I can be much better at giving grace to others than to myself. It is not easy to be gracious to ourselves in the pursuit of God's plan for us, as I have believed many times that I have messed it up. God's love for us is bigger than our doubts of His love. I personally need to reflect daily on this and trust His love.

  2. I love the prayer you posted. So good for me to read over and meditate on as I sit here caught up in the whirlwind of life and homework. Did you write it yourself?
