Blog Post 2

Over spring break, I was able to reconnect with my Mentor Chris for breakfast. Chris has been investing in me as a mentor since I was in 8th grade. I greatly appreciate his consistency and dedication. While most of our conversation consisted of catching up, I was able to talk to him about how much his availability means to me. I was able to coordinate with Chris the day before, to meet at 7:15am for breakfast before his work. This availability is such a blessing, that he is able to find even the smallest hole in his schedule and fill it. He could have spent that morning with his boys or his wife but was willing to meet with me while I was in town for a short time. After telling him how thankful I was for his availability and willingness to catch up with me, he proceeded to tell me about the company he is starting. He described this company as his passion, and his current jobs as his means to achieve that passion. He told me of his plans to start a consulting firm that works with students, sports teams, and businesses with the idea of putting someone else first and loving the person in front of you. He went into detail about how the company could aid students and athletes for interviews with businesses and coaches. Chris has been writing material for his blog as well as this company for a while now, and it was neat to hear how it was all coming together. He told me how he has been able to be a great salesman at his company just because he would put others in front of himself. Chris never saw himself as having a trick up his sleeve or technique to be such a successful salesman, rather when asked, he would just tell people he is loving other people and God is blessing it. Im excited to see where this new organization goes with such a great leader at the helm and look forward to learning more from him and even working alongside him at times. Through this discussion I retained that our passion and our job may be different things, and sometimes if one desires to achieve their passion, a job is required.

  1. Tice, that's so cool that your mentor is investing so much time in you, especially when he lives such a busy life. It's also awesome to hear that being a Christian in the business world doesn't always have to be a disadvantage; sometimes, it's actually an advantage.

  2. That's awesome that your mentor finds time to spend with you, it really shows that you guys have a strong relationship. It was also cool to see how Chris was able to be a great salesman just because he put others before him and showed that he actually cares for them.
