Reflection: Final Blog Post

As I talked to my mentor this weekend for ideas on my final blog post, we ended up talking about the importance of self reflection every once in a while. Being a Wheaton College student, I am sure a lot of you guys are like this as well, I do not really spend time to reflect. It's always just go go go because after you finish one project/assignment/test, you're just handed another. This weekend Dan helped me to reflect and thank God for all the experiences that he has provided me throughout this year.
I am going to be honest, I am not much of a reflector. My reflections consists of just recollecting the memories that stick out to me the most and thanking God through a generic prayer. This time however, Dan encouraged me to dig a little deeper.
If you know me, then you know that I like to laugh and joke around. I do not like reflecting on bad memories. Thinking about trials and tribulations does not sound too appealing so I tend to stay away from those thought. But Dan made me reflect not only on the good memories, but the bad ones as well.
What was funny was after this conversation, the next day I went to church and our pastor talked about the trials that we go through in life. At this point, I knew God was trying to tell me something. After I did some personal reflection, I called Dan and told him how what he told me lined up with what my pastor was preaching on.

What I learned from this last weekend is this:
1) God puts you through trials so that His name will be glorified
2) God might put you through trials that are difficult, but they ARE bearable
3) When you make it out of the difficult situation, He will reveal to you more about Him.

God puts us in situations where it just seems unfair. Around this time last year one of my close friends passed away from a freak accident. Back then all I felt was anger. If God was good, how could he take a life of a teen who was so set on doing God's work in the future? These thought came from sheer anger, but talking with my friends who went through that trial with me last year helped me realize something: the way we respond not only shows us the power of God, but it shows the power of God to the those observing us as well. Being able to be joyful for a friend who has passed is only something Christians can do.
God doesn't tell us that the things we go through in this world will be easy, but I can assure you that if you fully rely on God, you will get through it and you will come out stronger.

Thank you for spending time with me and my thoughts.

God Bless,

Kyong So

  1. I totally agree with you. It is hard to make myself sit down and just do nothing and reflect. But that is definitely something I would like to work on.
